Job description

Executive Nexus is transforming the way private equity investors identify, engage, and manage networks of CEO+ level executives through the smart application of digital tools and specialist services. The Role

Back-End Software Engineer with Laravel (Independent Contractor – remote)

Contract Type : Independent Contractor

What You’ll Do

Design, build, and maintain server-side logic and APIs
Develop and manage databases, application logic, and integration layers
Work primarily with PHP and Laravel, along with related tools and technologies

Implement security and data protection best practices

Contribute to planning, team discussions, and code reviews

Adapt to team needs and support broader technical efforts

Use Git for version control and collaboration

Provide daily progress updates and coordinate with the UK-based team

Ideal Profile

Requirements

5+ years of professional back-end development experience

Strong experience with PHP and Laravel framework (Eloquent ORM, Blade, Middleware, Artisan CLI, etc.)

Familiarity with MySQL or PostgreSQL and understanding of database design, indexing, and query optimization

Experience with RESTful API development and API authentication (OAuth2, Passport, Sanctum)

Familiarity with OpenAPI or Swagger for API documentation

Experience with Composer for dependency management

Experience with Laravel features like queues, events / listeners, caching (Redis / Memcached), and file processing

Unit and feature testing using PHPUnit and Laravel testing tools

Version control with Git and collaboration using pull requests and code reviews

Basic understanding of Docker and Linux command line for local development and deployment

Basic knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Vue.js or Alpine.js is a bonus)

Understanding of MVC architecture and clean coding practices (SOLID principles)

Strong English communication skills – both written and verbal

Ability to work collaboratively in a team and support broader team efforts

Self-discipline to work independently while staying aligned with team goals
