The Disbursement Manager is responsible for leading the Payables Department, ensuring accurate and timely vendor payments, and effectively managing Net Working Capital. The role also oversees the management of Non-Production Spend (NPS) to secure cost efficiency and favorable credit terms.

Scope & Dimensions of the Role

The Disbursement Manager reports directly to the Financial Controller, who in turn reports to the Finance Director.

Strategic Key Responsibilities

Supervise and manage the Payables Department to ensure creditors are paid on time. Oversee the procurement of non-production goods and services, ensuring optimal cost efficiency and favorable credit terms.

Operational

Lead a team of three, ensuring accurate and timely payments to all vendors. Incorporate changes in tax and VAT laws into the payments process in a timely manner. Provide the business with updates on long-outstanding costed / un-costed liabilities on a monthly basis. Review vendor reconciliations as per the annual plan and ensure compliance. Ensure customs duty payments are made promptly to avoid demurrage costs.

Key Challenges

Securing timely submission of invoices with appropriate approvals and supporting documentation. Consolidating NPS data from multiple business functions, which requires strong analytical skills and persistence to streamline scattered information. Establishing and formalizing missing SOPs within the NPS function at a regional level, requiring a strong sense of ownership and initiative.

Competencies Required

Expertise in Accountancy, Treasury Management, and Disbursement. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, or a related field from a recognized institution (Master’s degree preferred). 3–4 years of relevant experience in managing disbursements or payables.
