Job description

The main responsibility of a Purchase Manager is to plan and schedule the delivery of goods and services required by their organization, such as industrial, commercial, or government establishments.

Key duties include :

  • Finding reliable sources to supply goods and services
  • Attending sales demonstrations
  • Checking supplier operations at their premises or on-site
  • Reviewing product catalogues and trade journals
  • Contacting suppliers to obtain information on price, quality, and delivery capabilities
  • Meeting with sales representatives from various suppliers to compare products and companies
  • Recommending potential new sources, alternative materials, prices, and products
  • Deciding which products to purchase, placing orders, and following up to ensure timely delivery
  • Negotiating contractual terms and prices with suppliers
  • Using computers to plan material requirements and record details of orders, costs, and supplier information
