About the team The company is still small ( Responsibilities

Envision and implement crawlers / API-clients that aggregate complex, graphical data into comprehensible descriptions of social networks.

Architect efficient and reusable backend systems that drive complex web applications.

Collaborate with Product Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to deliver compelling products.

Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues.

Plan and coordinate data modelling & feature releases.

Envision, implement, and validate UIs that aggregate complex, graphical data into comprehensible social‑network descriptions.

Implement the features and user interfaces of Borg products like Hive.

Architect efficient and reusable front‑end systems that drive complex web applications.

Mentor junior full‑stack engineers.

Work Setup We are a fully remote team, with two hubs in Austin, TX and Berlin, Germany. Daily stand‑up calls are held; most work is asynchronous. We use the latest remote‑work tools and continuously evaluate new ones. Berlin team members may work from the office in Mitte.

Application Process We hire for ability, not credentials. The process tests your problem‑solving skills in real‑world scenarios. It includes a series of core questions (no unrelated brain teasers), three interviews (+ / −1), a short take‑home task (2–3 hrs), and a week‑long paid trial project. We aim to complete the process in 2–3 weeks from initial contact.

Qualifications

5+ years experience envisioning and implementing complex, high‑availability, high‑throughput backend systems.

5+ years experience architecting and implementing complex user flows on the web.

Solid JavaScript experience, including asynchronous programming, closures, and type systems.

Solid Python experience, including asynchronous programming, meta‑programming, type systems, and scientific Python.

Deep expertise in at least one major web framework (FastAPI, Flask, Django, aiohttp, Pyramid, etc.).

Experience building scalable APIs and optimizing performance of complex SQL queries touching millions of data points (PostgreSQL).

Experience with end‑to‑end testing tools such as Cypress.

Demonstrated ability to build robust, highly available platforms with cloud‑native technologies.

A growth mindset, balancing long‑term engineering objectives with immediate development needs.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; enjoys writing documentation.

1+ year experience writing serverless applications on AWS Lambda.

BS / MS in Computer Science or a related technical field (great to have).

Interest in sociology, anthropology, evolutionary psychology, game theory, design, or user experience.

Familiarity with online cultures, sub‑cultures, and memes.

Power user of social media platforms or active member of online communities.
