Designation : Senior Registrar (Eye / Ophthalmology)
Job Purpose
The Senior Registrar (Eye / Ophthalmology) will assist the Head of Department in managing and supervising the clinical and academic activities of the Ophthalmology Department. He / She will ensure quality patient care, teaching, and training of undergraduate students, post-graduate trainees, MOs, HOs, and paramedical staff. The role also includes coordinating with hospital administration to maintain excellence in clinical services and education.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities / Tasks
General Responsibilities
1. Adhere to institutional expectations regarding conduct, communication, and interactions.
2. Follow all policies, regulations, and procedures applicable to employees of IIMC(T)-PRH / Riphah.
3. Maintain confidentiality and discretion in all work-related matters.
4. Organize and prioritize workload effectively to meet deadlines.
5. Demonstrate sound judgment in routine and emergency situations.
6. Exhibit willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities.
7. Maintain professional communication aligned with institutional culture and values.
8. Demonstrate professional appearance, hygiene, and conduct.
9. Execute departmental and administrative projects as assigned.
10. Prepare, update, and monitor duty rosters.
11. Work independently with minimal supervision while keeping the HOD informed.
12. Process and maintain confidential documents securely.
13. Work collaboratively as part of a clinical and academic team.
14. Participate in professional development activities in teaching and research.
15. Promote ethical and professional standards among students and colleagues.
Clinical Duties Eye / Ophthalmology
1. Demonstrate sound knowledge of the clinical presentation and management of patients with ophthalmic diseases.
2. Ensure delivery of high-quality patient care and treatment.
3. Perform clinical consultations independently and support junior staff.
4. Discuss treatment plans and options with consultants and fellow clinicians.
5. Mentor registrars, trainees, MOs, HOs, and paramedics to ensure high standards of ophthalmic care.
6. Efficiently utilize HIMS for patient data entry, organization, and evaluation.
Learning & Teaching Responsibilities
1. Stay updated with current ophthalmic clinical practices and advancements.
2. Lead and conduct specialty-specific clinical teaching sessions.
3. Deliver lectures, tutorials, seminars, and discussion sessions for students.
4. Conduct assessments and evaluations as per curriculum.
5. Participate in educational rounds, clinical sessions, and skill-enhancing activities.
6. Guide trainees and junior doctors in clinical skills and professional development.
7. Demonstrate academic and clinical competency in ophthalmology-related patient management.
8. Promote and participate in research activities.
9. Maintain effective communication with students, colleagues, and senior faculty.
10. Coordinate with hospital administration to ensure quality ophthalmic education and services.
Managerial / Administrative Duties
1. Assist in planning and managing the administrative affairs of the Ophthalmology Department.
2. Supervise clinical and clerical staff, ensuring patient-centered service delivery.
3. Represent the department in internal and external academic or professional forums.
4. Perform any additional duties assigned by the HOD or hospital administration.
