Principal Software Engineer

Reporting to the Director Engineering, the Principal Software Engineer is a highly motivated individual contributor, and a key member of the engineering team participating in setting technical direction for new and existing products, recommending adjustments to resolve software issues, improving the functionality of existing software, and ensuring that the design, application, and maintenance of our Elixir software meets the quality standards of the company. You should also be able to mentor, guide, and train other engineers. In this position, you will collaborate with a brilliant team of software engineers helping them with their technology designs and decisions for various complex product advancements. As a Principal Engineer, you will also develop and unit test software to ensure it meets the needs of our customers, performing code reviews and providing feedback to junior developers and engineers. You will establish and incorporate software development best practices and drive innovation. To be successful in the Principal Software Engineer role at Elixir you are an open and hands-on senior level software engineer comfortable working in an agile environment and mentoring less experienced colleagues. You will showcase your expertise in advising on software engineering best practices, product architecture and technical solution designs to solve complex business challenges by getting hands on throughout the development project life cycle and seeing the implementation come to life. You will throw yourself into helping your colleagues learn how to advance Elixir solution developments to meet customers’ needs as you deliver, document it and work to product scope, quality, on-time, and on-budget guidelines. Essential Functions The essential functions include : Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large scale software solutions. Drive the adoption of TDD best practices across multiple squads, including the development and maintenance of comprehensive test suites, and delivering high-quality, working code. Develop and implement technical strategies to achieve business goals and drive innovation. Solve technical problems of the highest scope, complexity, and ambiguity in collaboration with squad members. Determine root cause for the most complex software issues and develop practical, efficient, and permanent technical solutions. Identify and correct bottlenecks that optimize delivery execution and the adoption of development best practices. Fix bugs and perform product maintenance activities on existing software systems. Apply Test-driven Development (TDD) and automated testing practices to produce reliable code. Collaborate, make proposals, and advise less experienced software engineers, providing technical guidance and support, and helping team members make informed decisions on product architecture, solution designs, and feature development in alignment with strategic initiatives and the product roadmap. Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in software development, and evaluate their potential impact on the organization. Contribute to the adoption of best practices in software engineering, including code reviews, testing, and continuous integration / delivery. Build relationships with key internal stakeholders, to understand their needs and ensure that software solution designs meet their requirements. Provide advice in software engineering best practices and methodologies, tools, and processes, and promote their adoption within the engineering team. Provide technical leadership and solve technical problems of the highest scope, complexity, and ambiguity in collaboration with squad members. Look for innovation opportunities between several team members with a willingness to experiment and to confront problems of large complexity and scope. Propose initial technical implementations which support architectural changes that solve scaling and performance problems. Guide conversations to remove blockers and encourage collaboration across teams and squads. Provide a point of escalation for your squad facing complex technical challenges. Attain a measurable positive impact on the work of your squad. Participate in the creation of new software products and services, contributing to the development of ground-breaking technologies and solutions. Expert understanding and practical experience in relation to software development best practices. Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, Oracle, or MongoDB. Expertise in software development methodologies such as Agile, Scrum & Lean. Experience rapidly prototyping new product concepts. Expert on the development of best practices using modern technology stacks. Consistently acts as champion and mentor on Test-driven Development (TDD) and automated testing practices to produce reliable code. Demonstrated experience communicating and presenting to a diverse set of people across squads. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required with professional working proficiency level of English fluency. Effective problem-solving and critical thinking skills Ability to manage self and mentor others under pressure and time-sensitive deadlines. Ability to multitask. Ability to facilitate and harness cross-team collaboration working with teams in-person and virtually. Is inquisitive and asks great questions. Requirements

Required education and experience 5-7 years of experience and proficiency in end-to-end software development project lifecycle delivery execution. Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor others and contribute to technical direction and innovation. Proven experience contributing to the creation of new software products and services, contributing to the development of ground breaking technologies and solutions. Hands on experience with Test-driven Development (TDD) and automated testing practices to produce reliable code. Preferred education and experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Experience working with Docker / Containers and K8s will be a plus. Experience developing enterprise software in any of (CRM, CCM, healthcare, insurance, fintech) a plus. Supervisory responsibilities No Work environment The work is performed in an office environment and may be distracting at times with others conversing. Work environment could be in Elixir’s office, working from home, or a hybrid of both. This position requires hours of computer screen time, hearing, speaking, and sitting or standing at a desk. Expected hours of work Generally, regular business hours while remaining flexible to accommodate different shifts depending on customer project in different time zones. Additional hours on weekends or holidays may be required on a seasonal basis to meet business needs.
