Job Description for Tax Specialist 1. Tax Compliance

Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, businesses, and organizations.

Ensure compliance with tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.

Research and interpret tax laws and rulings to provide accurate advice and guidance to clients or the organization.

2. Tax Planning

Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize financial outcomes for clients or the organization.

Provide proactive tax planning advice to individuals, businesses, and organizations.

Analyze financial data to identify tax-saving opportunities and risks.

3. Client Consultation and Communication

Meet with clients to discuss their tax situation, goals, and concerns.

Communicate complex tax concepts in a clear and understandable manner to clients or stakeholders.

Provide guidance and recommendations tailored to clients\' specific needs and objectives.

4. Tax Research and Analysis

Conduct research on tax issues, legislation, and regulations to stay updated on changes and developments.

Analyze tax implications of business transactions, investments, and other financial activities.

Prepare memoranda, opinions, and reports summarizing tax research findings and recommendations.

5. Audit Support and Resolution

Assist clients or the organization in responding to tax notices and inquiries from tax authorities.

Represent clients in tax audits and examinations, if necessary.

Resolve tax controversies and disputes through negotiation or other means.

6. Team Collaboration and Leadership

Collaborate with other members of the tax team, as well as professionals from other departments (e.g., legal, finance).

Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior staff members.

Lead or participate in special projects and initiatives related to tax planning, compliance, or process improvement.

Qualifications 1. Education

ACCA / CA / CMA (qualified / part qualified)

2. Experience

4-5 years of experience in tax preparation, planning, and consulting.

Experience with tax research, analysis, and compliance for individuals, businesses, and / or nonprofit organizations.

3. Technical Skills

Proficiency in tax software(Drake, Pro-Connect, Lacerte, Ultra-Tax, ATX etc.) and tools (e.g. Canopy, Sharepoint, TaxDome, Monday.com etc.)

Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

4. Communication and Interpersonal Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to effectively communicate complex tax concepts to clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with clients and team members.

5. Attention to Detail and Accuracy

High level of attention to detail and accuracy in tax calculations and documentation.

Ability to review and analyze financial data with precision.

6. Professionalism and Ethical Conduct

Commitment to upholding professional standards and ethical guidelines in the practice of tax law and accounting.

Integrity and discretion when handling confidential client information.
