The multidisciplinary Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences based in the Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, strives to deliver high-quality undergraduate and graduate education cutting across and integrating the disciplines of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology and Pharmacology. The department is also committed to conducting impactful biomedical research on both communicable and non-communicable disorders, designed to improve the health and wellbeing of communities at large.

The Aga Khan University invites applications for the positions of Professors and Associate Professors in Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Physiology and related disciplines in the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences.

Responsibilities :

Actively participating and contributing in undergraduate medical (MBBS), MPhil, PhD and other academic programs of the department and the university
Supervision and mentorship of MPhil and PhD students
Mentorship of junior faculty members in the department
Developing and implementing multidisciplinary research projects of translational value.

The requirements

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent in their relevant field, preferably with a medical degree, and at least two years of postdoctoral experience.

Applicants are also expected to demonstrate the following as commensurate with their years of experience in a Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognized or foreign university / institution, and should have :

The capacity for quality teaching across programmatic levels

The ability to supervise graduate students

The ability to write grants / procure extramural funding

Established scholarship in a defined area of focus as evidenced by peer-reviewed high-quality publications, presentations at national and international fora, change in practice or policy and / or other forms of dissemination.

Academic rank will be based on experience, academic achievements and research publications.

Additionally, applicants for :

Professor should have relevant years of experience and a sustained track record of effective teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, supervision of MPhil / PhD students, procuring extramural research grants, impactful publications in a defined area of focus as a senior author and recognition at the national and international level.

Associate Professor should have relevant years of experience and demonstrated scholarship of teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, supervision of MPhil / PhD students, and independent research in a defined area of focus with grants leading to a sustained body of scholarship.
