Job Role / Responsibilities :
The position will be reporting to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Nursing Education, School of Nursing and Midwifery. Moreover, you will be responsible for :
- planning and teaching academic English courses to university students from a range of linguistic, educational and cultural backgrounds, both in-person and online
- selecting, preparing and using teaching and learning materials appropriate for undergraduate and postgraduate students as part of credit-bearing academic programmes
- providing academic writing support for students, as appropriate, through consultations and tutorial
- ensuring all associated duties, including the preparation of classes, marking and timely feedback are performed to the required standard
- developing and conducting high-quality formative assessments as required
- making effective use of the AKU Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle), and other learning and communication technologies
- carrying out administrative and record-keeping tasks associated with teaching, attendance and assessment
- attending and contributing actively to staff meetings, planning meetings and professional development sessions
- adhering to and maintaining academic standards and quality assurance within the team.
Requirements : You should have :
a Master’s degree in a relevant area (e.g. TESOL, Applied Linguistics) AND / OR a DELTA / CELTA or equivalent teaching English qualificationminimum of two years' experience of teaching English for Academic Purposes within a relevant Higher Education environment and a demonstrable understanding of the skills support requirements of HE studentsproven experience and skills in : course and lesson planning; subject knowledge; assessment; online teaching; time managementhigh level of awareness and knowledge of the language and skills needed in an English medium university for successful communication in academic and professional contextsability to work effectively as part of a team, and to establish and develop effective working relations with AKU academic departments and professional serviceshigh level of competence in English language (equivalent to at least a high C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference)proficiency in MS Office and other communication technologies (e.g : Zoom, Microsoft Teams)ability to analyze and describe language systems (lexis, discourse, grammar and phonology) and language use (through spoken and written text) and communicate this knowledge effectively and in ways that are appropriate to the learnersevidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate effectively and respectfully across a range of audiences.Comprehensive employment reference checks will be conducted.
